Presenting Website Concepts

Key takeaway

Present the business case for the design, not just the design itself.

Presenting a website concept to a prospective client is a different skill from building it. A strong presentation doesn't just show the design — it walks through the thinking: what you learned about their business and customers in research, what problems the current site has, and how specific choices in the new design directly address those problems.

Structure the presentation to build toward the reveal rather than opening with it: briefly recap what you found in research (including, carefully and respectfully, real gaps in their current site), then walk through the new design section by section, explicitly connecting choices back to the business's actual goals ("we led with pricing transparency here because three of your recent reviews mentioned being surprised by hidden costs").

Be ready for feedback and revision requests live — this is normal and often a good sign of real engagement, not a rejection of the work. Respond to feedback the same way you'd handle a sales objection: understand the real concern behind the comment before defending or changing the design, since sometimes the stated feedback isn't quite the real underlying concern.
